The Charlotte Housing Authority Scholarship Fund was created in 1983 by the Charlotte Housing Authority Youth Services Director John T. Crawford. A resident of Charlotte Housing Authority needed $300 to return to school to be able to complete his degree. This interaction showed a small need in a much larger pool of residents seeking financial assistance to attend college. In its first year, the fund raised almost $65,000 and assisted 16 students. To date, the fund has awarded over $3 Million in scholarships. The CHASF is managed by Foundation for the Carolinas. To be a supporter visit
