B Bandz: “Fresh” Personified!

His influences range from old school, industry icons such as Will Smith LL Cool J and Lil Wayne, to current artists like YFN Lucci, Lil Uzi, and Lil Uzi Vert. He recognizes each of them and then immediately talks on the path he’s decided to blaze……to be a leader for today’s youth…

All the while remaining “FRESH.”

CD: We did a little research on you, caught me by surprise! You took the grown man route, because you are a rap artist that took a stand, and uses no profanity. No profanity?

BB: No profanity!

CD: Explain that please!

BB: Well, you know where I come from, I’m from Chicago, and I’m 17 years old. I feel like a lot more doors will open up if I stay in that clean lane you know.  I grew up in a church home, I started off Gospel rapping, rapping for the Lord. My grandparents were pastors, New Life Family Christian Center, and even though I changed my lane to worldly, I still wanted to stay clean. I still wanted to be a voice for the youth, you feel me? Even though I’m from a place that there’s a lot of killing and a high murder rate, I still want to change something! I’ve been around all the drugs, all the guns, all that….but you can always change where you’re going, you can never change where you’re from. For me, being around all that, I wanted to go the positive route, a voice for the youth, and be creative with my music. You don’t have to curse to get your point across, it’s a lot of words in the world that you can use to get your point across. That’s why I wanted to stay in that clean lane, because I wanted to make a whole new different sound, a different way.

CD: That sounds good. That’s why you’ve been dubbed “The Fresh Prince of Hip Hop!” Which is cool, because it makes you think back to the history of another young talent then…Will Smith and “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

BB: Yes Will Smith! Shout out to Will Smith, I look up to him a lot because he’s one of my role models. He always stayed clean, he went commercial as well, to be on television and stuff. That’s how I am too, I’m a nice actor, and I like to do things like that too. So that’s why I looked up to him coming up, and that’s why I brand myself as that new fresh prince, because I’m the new wave. Back then, Will Smith had his own wave going on, now there’s whole new wave going on! I’m a fresh sound, a fresh wave, I’ve got a fresh image, so I want to keep that up.

CD: With you being the “Fresh Prince of Hip Hop” and you are talking about diversity. Are you setting yourself up to be unlike other rap artists that are out?

BB: Most definitely! I feel like I’m a trendsetter, because I’m doing something nobody else does. Even though my stuff is positive, I still mix street in with it though from where I’m from.  When you listen to my music, it’s very diverse, a lot of different ways my music is implemented. Where I’m from, what I’ve seen in my life, what I have to do to get where I’m at, I put everything into my music. I make “turnt up” records, club records, records for the ladies…another one of my role models was LL Cool J.  Watching him, listening to him coming up, made me want to make that type of music for the ladies, cause “ladies love Bandz!” See what I’m saying!  I’m not just a “one lane” rapper…I can rap on any beat you give me, any type of beat you give me, I can rap on it.

CD: So what is the concept behind “Fresh” the single?

BB: Fresh is an image….it not just a song. It’s also a lifestyle, so “Fresh” is like everything about me.  Like I said, I’m fresh, a fresh sound, my music is fresh, a new wave. It’s kinda like a branding. When I was making “Fresh” it was an introduction of who I am, that’s why I market myself as The New Fresh Prince.

CD: You’re busy! I got a chance to look at your itinerary. DC, Miami, the QC…thanks for visiting our city! So what’s going to be next for B Bandz?

BB: Well, I’ve got a lot of stuff going on for me. A TV show that I can’t really talk too much about, but casting on a TV show that’s coming out.

CD: And where do you see yourself five years from now?

BB: One of the youngest CEOs!
